Circle of Friends Reunion Trip July 27-30, 2010 Tampa, FL
The Reunion trip began from experiences of emotional good-byes during the conclusion of every Winter Week trip in Wisconsin. As the children boarded different flights and vehicles to get home, they wanted to make certain they would see one another again. The Circle of Friends wanted to ensure that this would be a reality.
They decided to change the sad goodbyes to warm greetings by reuniting the children every two years in a warm climate. The reunion allows the children to renew old bonds while creating new friendships with kids from each of the last two Winter Trips.
While the reunion continues to take place every two years, Bill and Jerry plan to create new programs and a variety of communication avenues to ensure that the group will constantly stay in contact and not wait until another trip to share each others camaraderie.
The Circle of Friends 2010 reunion will be held in Tampa, Florida from July 27-30.
Circle of Friends/Pink NCAA St. Point Football Game Sept. 25, 2010
The University of St. Point Football program joined up with us and the Team Schierl Companies Foundation to have the first ever Men's Football Game to be played in White and Pink jerseys! At halftime, 6 teams of young kids will be able to play on the field and play a game and also show their support for the foundations and wear pink jerseys as well!!!
WINTER WEEK XIII - February 2011
NFL Alumni Jerry Wunsch, Jared Tomich & Bill Schroeder; along with NFL offensive lineman Austin King & Saints Defensive Lineman Brian Young will treat a group of pediatric cancer patients to a five-day winter trip in Jerry’s hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin. Jerry has been working with pediatric cancer patients since he began his NFL career in 1997 and has hosted eleven winter trips and four summer reunions. In the past few years Brian, Bill, Jared and Austin joined the Circle of Friends. Together they have hosted children from their hometowns and playing cities nation-wide on many Winter Weeks as well as Summer Reunions.
Jerry, Jared, Bill, Brian & Austin will work with the Tampa Children’s Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital at Marshfield, JPP Iowa Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, Camp Sunshine in Atlanta, Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago and Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center of Seattle to create an exciting program that will be a fun and safe experience for the participating youth.
The trip will begin Wednesday, February 11th when a group of 6 children from the Children’s Cancer Center in Tampa, 4 children from Iowa Children’s Hospital, 4 children from Chicago, 4 children from Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, 4 children from Atlanta and 4 children from New Orleans will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin. In Green Bay 3 children from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and 3 children from St. Joseph's will join the group as they start their journey together. From Green Bay they will travel to Wausau where they will spend five days enjoying winter activities & forming new friendships.
During their stay in Wisconsin, the children will enjoy such activities as downhill skiing & tubing, snowmobile rides, arts and craft sessions, sleigh rides, campfire & hotdog roasts and disco bowling!
“I started this program in 1997 because I wanted these children to know they are not alone in their struggles with cancer,” Wunsch stated. “Being with other kids who go through the same things they do everyday is comforting for them.” “We hope to promote healthy, long-lasting friendships between the kids to enjoy for a lifetime while empowering them to overcome their illness.”
